Take a second to imagine what it would be like if you had never been outside before. Never felt the warm sun on your skin, never felt the wind in your hair, never felt the grass between your toes, never been swimming in the ocean, and the only memory of “fresh air” that you have is from a candle your mom got you from the mall. Add in the fact that if you actually do go outside, you will die.

By natural human nature, we always want what we can’t have, so going outside in a situation like this would be extremely tempting, especially when a cute boy moves in next door. This is exactly the situation that Madeline Whittier, the main character of the new movie Everything, Everything, finds herself caught in.

Directed by Stella Meghie, and based off the book by Nicola Yoon (which won the Black-Eyed Susan Award, Maryland’s top book honor), Everything, Everything is a new summer film that was released on May 19, 2017. The movie follows the life of 18-year-old Madeline Whittier, a teenage girl who was diagnosed with the rare severe combined immunodeficiency disorder, or SCID for short.

SCID, which causes Maddy to be allergic to virtually everything in the outside world, has led her to live a very isolated life. She lives in a sealed off house, and only knows a total of three people; her mom, her nurse Carla, and Carla’s daughter. If Maddy were to ever go outside, or touch anybody other than those three people, she could quite possibly die.

However, her life changes when the new boy, Olly Bright, moves in next door. After days of communicating via window marker and instant messaging, Maddy convinces Carla to sneak Olly inside when her mom is off at work.

Throughout the film’s hour and thirty six minute run time, the audience will find themselves tied up in a riveting tale of love, adventure, and teenage rebellion.

“The movie was really good,” stated junior Amber Underwood. “I really enjoyed the plot, and how the characters progressed throughout the entire thing.”

Junior Olivia Sothoron also said, “I really enjoyed the movie because I thought it was cool how it followed the book very closely. I also liked the animation and how there were certain parts that we knew were happening inside of Maddy’s head.”

So, will Madeline end up falling for Olly, the boy next door? Or will she continue living the comfortable, and familiar life she has grown so used to? Everything, Everything is sure to leave the hearts of all audiences warmed by its incredible story of love.
